Pinterest character limits
Pinterest gives a Pin a title of up to 100 characters and a description of up to 500 characters. Only the first ~40 characters of the title and the first line or two of the description show in the feed, so lead with your keywords. This tool counts both fields live so your Pins stay searchable and never get cut off mid-thought.
Write for Pinterest search
Pinterest is a visual search engine, so descriptions are about discovery, not just captions. Put your primary keyword in the first 40–60 characters of the title and weave natural keywords plus a few relevant hashtags into the description. Describe what the Pin shows and why someone should click — that context helps Pinterest match your Pin to the right searches.
Titles, descriptions, and boards
Each Pinterest field has its own limit: Pin titles 100 characters, Pin descriptions 500, board titles around 50, and board descriptions 500. Your profile “about” line is much shorter at roughly 160 characters. Emoji and non-Latin scripts count as characters, so the live counter shows exactly how much room is left in each field.
Private and instant
Type or paste a Pin title and description to see character counts and remaining space at a glance. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded. Trim until both fields sit within Pinterest’s limits, then copy them into the Pin builder.
FAQs
What is the Pinterest Pin title character limit?
100 characters. Only about the first 40 show in the feed, so put your most important keywords first.
What is the Pinterest description character limit?
500 characters for a Pin description. Use the space for keyword-rich context that helps Pinterest surface your Pin in search.
Do hashtags and emoji count toward the limit?
Yes. Hashtags, emoji, and non-Latin characters all count toward Pinterest’s limits. This counter counts them exactly as Pinterest does.
Is my Pin text uploaded anywhere?
No. Counting happens entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent to a server, so your drafts stay private.
